A couple taken on opening day. The first Usk fish was from Pantygoytre caught by Steve Barker (8lbs) Another 7 1/2 lbs for Richard Goodwin from Llanbadoc on a small Ally

Mr Evans reports half a dozen fish over 20lb recently .....

Not many reports of salmon from the Usk, is this due to lack of reports or lack of fish?

I thought we had 9-10 years of habitat work on the Usk already S.F. Surely this can't the same "habitat work" that is going to replace mitigation stocking.

Would that be the same habitat work that contributed to last years rod catch on the Usk being the lowest for years and led Mr Guy Mawle, one time E.A. man and now WUF trustee, to say in his preliminary report that the egg deposition was likely to be the lowest since 2003 and possibly the lowest since 1993?

Thats exactly the one ..its all to do with something other than WUF's habitat work of course, no stocking to blame on the Usk

You are all being a bit premature surely. You know how long in takes for this habitat work to kick in. Three generations, oh no give us four or maybe five.
Just you wait and see -it will be a success. It always is if WUF do it - isn't it. Oh and they have not spent enough millions yet -some way to go to match the Wye.

                    additional to that habscore table
                    Quote:
                    Salmon
In broad terms, the juvenile salmon populations in the Usk have increased since surveying began in 1986 (Figures 11a and b) with a statistically significant overall juvenile upward trend (P = 0.9966); this upward trend is primarily fuelled by a statistically significant increase in salmon fry numbers (P = 1.0); the parr densities have shown no evidence of an upward trend, rather a slight decline (P = 0.3841).

                    Quote:
In the short term dataset, the trend is not as promising, indicating a strong downwards trend (P = 0.0466) in juvenile salmon densities since 2002 (Figure 11c). Again, this is more pronounced in the parr populations (P = 0.0364) than in the fry (P = 0.2665). This is also evident in the non-linear analysis, which shows a dipping of the trend in recent years (Figure 11b).

                    Quote:
                    Brown Trout
The story for brown trout in the Usk appears to contrast with salmon, in that there is a statistically significant downwards trend in overall populations (Figure 12a). However, this is entirely fuelled by a statistically significant (P = 0) downwards trend in parr and adult, and in fact the trend for fry is strongly upwards, albeit not quite statistically significant (P = 0.9441). The downwards trend in parr and adults does not correlate with Habscore results, which suggest that the majority of sites have trout parr and adult numbers well within normal ranges

See Simon is protesting already.Strange that when we try and question their statistics they refuse to discuss them. Wants me to but a proviso on the rwga site i see. I would like to be even handed and will do so when they stop cherry picking the information they give out to us. Bet Sophie had a bad time from SMS before she was allowed to print that review!

Maybe you should add the quotes above to your website seeker

So from the Habscore results it would appear that the underlying upward trend is down!
